Lumbering Towards Victory

Lumbering Towards Victory features a suite of paintings born of a desire to concentrate on intensity and sensation in the pursuit of new images. Allusions to overflow and exuberance were the catalyst for the creation of this new body of work. Excess and its potential to spill over into new modes of image making proved vital in the artist’s search for ‘victory’. Through continued renegotiation of the relationships between figure and ground, abstraction and figuration, and colour and sensation, new forms and motifs were willed into existence as the images eventually materialised.
